Easing After Pains

  1. Keep bladder empty

  2. Keep uterus contracted.  The pain comes as uterus contracts, after relaxing.

  3. May lay on tummy with a small pillow under belly to tamponade the uterus. (Lying with feet overhanging the bed puts more direct pressure on her belly).

  4. Ibuprofen  400-800 mg 4 times a day as needed

  5. Tylenol 1,000 mg and can be taken simultaneously with the Ibuprofen temporarily

  6. Herbal teas such as Chamomile

  7. Massage uterus when sitting on the toilet, gravity and massage may help to pass any remaining clots.

  8. Using a heated rice bag, putting light pressure over uterus.
